Are Seagulls a Serious Menace? After Vicky Norman made her vehement statement to the Council, we went out around the town and gathered some views from Traders, Residents and Visitors. It's clear that action is necessary, though opinion seems to be divided. Should there be a cull? Raptors on the beach? A total ban on feeding the gulls?
The Final Cry: Now updated. Includes Phil Streets emotional resignation speech, Final Proclamation on the steps of the Guildhall, speech at his Leaving Party, and receiving the honour of Freeman of Lyme Regis.
Private Freedom and Public Security.16th September at Woodmead Halls. Oliver Letwin, local MP and Govt minister in discussion with Clive Stafford-Smith of 'Reprieve', an organisation that defends prisoners on Death Row in the USA, and in Guantanamo Bay. Organised by Lyme Regis Branch of Amnesty International. All the more interesting since Oliver has been in the news for dropping Govt. documents into public bins!
ArtsFest in the Shelters: 17th September. ArtsFest Opening Ceremony by Sally Holman, music from Dom Kirtley, and interviews with ArtsFest artists.
New Ducklings in the River: 17th September. Public spirited local family introduces new ducklings to the river.
Lyme Live ArtsFest Special: Woodmead Social Club 19th September. Sally Holman (ArtsFest Co-ordinator) with Chelsea Davine and Brian Matravers in conversation with Pip Evans. Music from Julian Shaw
Lyme Live 'Open Mic'. 19th September. An ArtsFest event which included Lyme Regis TV Annual Music Awards. Three Finalists were each presented with a Microphone from Axe Music. Some very special performers turned up for this session, including 2 performers fresh from sell-out appearances at Londons prestigious 02 Arena!
Music at the Malthouse: 21st September. A full house for this ArtsFest event featuring performances by local musicians, Julian Shaw, Roy & Rob, Marshall Stapleton and the Pure Dirt Band. The Bob Dylan set at the end is a bit raucous, but was a great ending to one of those really special nights.
Alan Dearling Book Launch 'The Friendly Invasion': 23rd September. Alans new book is a drama-documentary set in wartime Lyme Regis as American GI's trained for D-Day. Two interviews (Nomad and Pip Evans) at Serendip Books.
B Sharp Busking Festival: 24th September. For this event, a piano was installed in the Shelters. Our camera was there at the right moment to film this fabulous set from an unknown piano player! Can anyone give us the name of this very accomplished musician?
Sgt. Peppers Only Dartboard Band: 1st October. The last in this years series of 'Legends Return' shows at Woodmead Halls. This 'Fab Five' (with Sgt. Pepper himself on keys) had us singing and dancing all night with all the Beatles hits!
LRTC Full Council Meeting: 5th October. The Public Forum features full statement from a concerned local resident about what happened at the Hub Youth Club Opening Night.
Hear Here 'Songs of Lyme' B Sharp. 20th October. Around 100 youngsters excelled in this performance at Woodroffe school with great music written with the assistance of John K Miles and Billy Bragg. A DVD of the show will be available, contact us or Fran Williams if you would like a copy.
Lyme Live RBL Special: 24th October. A prelude to the forthcoming Festival of Remembrance on 5th November. Pip Evans talks to Dave Manners and 'Army John' Hunt. A reallly thoughtful tears in the eyes interview. Music from Julian Shaw.
BACKTRACK:
Sams Mix Tape: 25th June. We forgot about this one, been sitting in our files for several months! Young people from the town got together themselves to have a Benefit Night for Sam Nunn. We caught some of the acoustic performers that opened the show for a very successful evening at the Marine Theatre. Hope the audience noise isn't too distracting!
WOODFEST! 22nd to 24th July. Proceeds to RNLI. This link takes you to the Friday Night session with Papa Le Gal, but we still have more to come from this weekend celebration of local bands and performers. Checkout links below the main screen for other performances from Woodfest.
STREAMING SERVICES:
As we reported earlier this year, we are gradually introducing a streamed service on all our channels, and will over the next few weeks be reducing channels from the present 8 down to 5.
