Mosquito-Buzzes Lyme Regis!
Alternative headline would be: ‘Mosquito-B Saves the Day!”, because that’s what happened on Saturday night, 2nd October. This was the second visit by this truly legendary French Canadian outfit, and as the first time, way back in April, with Stackridge, they brought some Mosquito Magic with them. We figured that the first time we saw them last May, would be the last, that they would never pass this way again. That was before we knew about Dan Louis’ love for Lyme Regis, and even though he fears flying, he had to return to Lyme. On this second UK tour, they’re finding out of course, that the UK loves Mosquito-B, and they’re getting rave reviews wherever they appear.
At 5pm we were on the verge of cancelling the show. The main act for the night was ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Only Dartboard Band’, an excellent outfit, but unfortunately for us, sadly depleted. Due to a family crisis, the band was minus George (Harrison) and Paul (McCartney). Only members present were John (Lennon), Ringo, and Sgt. Pepper himself on keyboards. Worse than that, George and Paul had gone racing off to a hospital taking half the bands gear with them. That was the moment Mosquito-B stepped in. Next thing we saw at the soundcheck, is both bands playing the most brilliant Beatles rock n roll.
I really believe in this band, I listen to a lot of music and I’m hard to please, but there is something about the pure sound of this band that can be raw and incisive, yet remaining smooth and mellow. I think Dan Louis’ personality is a little like that, as a performer, one minute explosive and kicking, and then smiling benignly as he tells the stories behind the music from their new ‘Killing Mars’ album.
Was a proud moment for me to wear the TUSA shirt and be invited on stage with them as an ‘honorary astronaut’! Great to play some blues harmonica with a really tight band in which every member contributes to the rhythm section, Dan Louis’ pumping bass, Dom’s pneumatic drums, with Jeffs sharp guitar work. Irresistable! When Dan Louis exhorts the audience to ‘Get Up’, he really means it, and the whole room gets up and rocks. I’ve never seen a band sell so much product afterwards either. They were shifting their pressed in England vinyl album hand over fist.
If you want to know about the album ‘Killing Mars’, which will be a hit in Canada where they’re much more well known and have a large following, check out their website, and join their Facebook page. I’m writing this wearing my TUSA (Totally Unknown Space Agency) shirt, and looking forward to the Mars mission!

This band is really accomplished, and if they hadn’t been such brilliant musicians and all round good guys, we really would have had to cancel the show. The combination of Sgt. Peppers with Mosquito-B gave us a rockin’ gig which I feel personally was the best ‘Legends Return’ gig in the whole series. So thanks, you did us proud, and we’re fans forever.
Anyway, here is the video of Mosquito-B at the Woodmead Halls in Lyme Regis, including some footage of the band playing some Beatles tunes with Sgt. Peppers Only Dartboard Band, a classic night, you don’t get gigs as fine as this very often.

Mosquito-B in Lyme Regis
We’re hoping that they’ll be back next year already, and if they do make the trip, I’m offering to drive the van myself!
