News Updates and Editorial Comment from LymeRegisRadio

Tuesday, 25 September 2007

These are exciting times for LymeregisRadio, and this week has been so far about the most exciting since we began. On Wednesday evening we're off to Dorchester where the Winners will be announced for the Community Champions Awards, we've been nominated for an Award in the category of 'Innovations', so wish us luck. We'll be recording the session, and hope everyone is ready there for our next 'innovation', our new SouthWestRadio site, Our other recent 'innovation' is the webcasting of Lyme Regis Full Council Meetings, making Lyme Regis the first town council in Dorset to have its proceedings webcast, next meeting is also this Wednesday, and as long as no 'defamations' occur, you'll hear it online sometime on Thursday. Our Third Hit this week, giving us the Grand Slam, is the Finale of our Sound&Vision event at the Power Boat Club on Friday night. Its going to be a great night, made even more special because we are in celebratory mood. We have an incredibly good line-up of bands musicians and performers, a few awards to give out, courtesy of Axe Music, Ian Gillan, Sandy Burnfield, By the Bay and ArtsFest. We have the Alex Harvest Band, who featured strongly at our Launch a couple of years ago, and was last year's Ian Gillan Award Winner in OpenAudio. Also appearing is Lee Demkiw of DeltaSeven fame, the best band currently in town. Lee's CD on the site makes regular appearnces in our Top Twenty. There will be guest spots from the Mary Land Chicane, last seen in Lyme at the Picnic in the Park, Mitch Norman of West Coasters will be on the programme too, along with Pete& Ruth from Seaton, and the wonderfully expressive Ali Cooper. Pip Evans will be interviewing for Friday Night Live, and you just know already, this will be a night to remember. Free Admission, and the best bar in town!
And thats only this week.

Next week, we're commencing the first of our series of major changes to the main site. We'll be online throughout, so bear with us for the next three or four weeks while we put it all together in a new way. These new 'innovations' are a bit of a quantum leap for us, and we know already, not everything is gonna go smoothly!
When its all finished, you'll see that the site has metamorphosed in to three parts which are :
LymeRegisRadio: Still the main feature, not much change here, still the same mix of local news, events and music, and our own 'Listen Again' channel.
LymeRegisTV: No more YouTube! (they steal our hits!) All our video, much more of it, will be hosted on our own site, you'll also be able to view video's full page, filling your whole screen, just like real TV.
SouthWestRadio: The first thing you'll see when you click in is a programme schedule telling you whats on for the week ahead. Programmes will run from Midday to Midnight, repeating from Midnight to Midday, with a mix of Live and Recorded shows. We hope eventually to have at least one Live session every day. We're still uncertain as to what the first Live Show will be, but choose from the following:
Friday Night Live! from the Royal Lion, catch it Live before the editor chops it! Local News from Pip Evans, and interviews with guests and friends. 7pm to 9pm Weekly
Saturday Dance Night, presented live each week from a nightclub in Bristol. 9pm to Midnight.
The Agenda, weekly evening phone-in with South West guests. 8pm to 10pm.
The Alex Harvest Experiment, live music show from Chippenham, Wilts, with invited musicians from across the region. 8pm to 10pm.
Midnight with Nomad, your Editor chats with friends, from the region, across the UK, and all over the world on Internet Messenger. Midnight to 2am.
The Seven O'Clock News, we rather hope that the venerable Mr. Philip Evans will step forward for this one.
And thats only the beginning, among the recorded programmes will be:
The Mystery Presenter, street voxpops from a different town in the region each week.
SouthWestRadio will also feature a Chatroom........

As I said, these changes are dramatic and won't happen overnight, we're starting next week, after Community Champion Awards, the Full Council Meeting, and Sound&Vision are off the agenda.
See you Friday, 7.30pm, at the Power Boat Club..........

I'm pumped that these changes will allow the rest of the world, and me by extension, to be more active with Lyme. :)

FM frequency indeed! Digital all way!
